Adobe Digital Editions is required to download books from ProQuest Ebook Central. This free software differs from Adobe Reader. When you first open the book, you'll be prompted to 'authorize your computer'.

You only need to enter an Adobe ID and password if you want to transfer the book to another device. To authorise your computer without an Adobe ID, simply check the box at the bottom left corner of the screen: "I want to authorize my computer without an ID".
